First Day of School

There have been a lot of "firsts" in the past few days: first family cross-country road trip, first night in our new house, first hike in the mountains, first visit to our local brewery...  But probably the most significant "first" was the first day of school!  The kids were all a little apprehensive (I was too).  Everything seemed so different and new!  But thankfully, each one of them came out of school at the end of the day with a story about something fun that happened and a new friend (or friends!) they'd made.  So I'd say it was a success!

A little morning message from the "sign fairy" on the first day!

Ready for 2d grade in Ms. Weigel's class!

Ready for 1st grade in Mr. Smith's class!

Ready for his last year of preschool at KinderCare, where he has too many teachers to keep track of.

Bring it.

Pretty amazing view on their walk to school.

Pretty amazing view from the school grounds too
(so amazing, they apparently couldn't bear to look at it).

And they're off.

Hugs from Ms. Weigel helped to calm the nervous jitters.

Other parents told us that Mr. Smith is wonderful and makes every day fun.

D was a little nervous at drop-off and didn't want me to leave at first...

...but then Ms. Naomi told him he could feed the fish and all was well.

On the second day of school, no one batted an eyelash.  As Jill said when I tried to walk her to her classroom again: "It's ok Mom, we got this."  Yes, you do.  Me on the other hand...
