Just like everything else in 2020, the beginning of the school year was...different. Our school system started out with two weeks of virtual learning (with one day of in-person "orientation). Then, students had the choice of sticking with e-learning, or transitioning into 100% in-person learning for the rest of the semester. We went with the latter because, as I may have mentioned before, e-learning sucks.
So our first first day of school was just e-learning. The teacher (me), principal (me), and guidance counselor (also me) announced that it was perfectly acceptable to show up barefoot and still wearing pajamas. That said, students were still required to brush their teeth and stop kicking their siblings...
Silly.
Sweet.
Solo.
Surreal.
Let the "learning" commence!
After a week and a half of e-learning, the boys got to go in for an "orientation" day in person. Jill, unfortunately, still had to do virtual school since her teacher was getting married and couldn't attend the orientation. But our girl made the most of it, announcing that since she was now an only child she got to do whatever she wanted all day.
Masked up and ready to meet their teachers in person!
Waiting to be screened.
Yesterday was their second first day of school, and it was the strangest of all. After a crazy hot weekend with temperatures reaching nearly 100 degrees, a cold front swept through with highs in the 30s - not to mention freezing rain and, eventually, snow. So we had to whip out the winter coats, gloves, and hats this time around!
Taking pictures inside to avoid the elements.
Ready for third grade with Mrs. Greenlaw!
Ready for second grade with Mrs. Whatley!
Ready for kindergarten with Mrs. Smith!
They passed their health screening and skipped right on into school. No one cried for Mom this year. Even I felt more relieved than sad. I think it's fair to say that we're all just hoping and praying that this works...and lasts.
