For the first time since moving to Colorado, I truly felt like we were celebrating Christmas in our "home." This house just feels so warm and welcoming, and it made the holidays cozier and more comfortable than ever. Here are a few snapshots of the ways we celebrated this season in our new home:
Christmas Tree Hunting - I didn't love last year's scrawny Christmas tree, but the kids (or at least Danny) did love finding it and chopping it down. So we compromised...and got two trees (that's a compromise, right?): one from Costco that we used as our family tree, and one from the woods that we referred to as "Pepper's tree." I personally think Pepper got the short end of the stick, so to speak.
Getting Decked Out - We decked our tree(s) and the halls of our new home. We also decked ourselves out for holiday parties!
Christmas Cards - We sent and received many joyful Christmas cards.
Christmas Cookies - We baked and decorated and ate Christmas treats.
Note Danny's nose plug - he could not stand the smell of the gingerbread!
Christmas Shows - We attended Jill's Christmas performances. She sang in the Denver Children's Choir holiday concert, and danced as a hip hop solder in her dance studio's Nutcracker performance.
Christmas Presents - We opened presents together, and there were some good ones this year. The highlights were a new basketball shooting game for the basement...and a Disney/Harry Potter World trip!
Colorado Christmas - Then, we got to open presents again with our Indiana/Michigan family, who flew out on Christmas Day (despite a massive snow storm) to spend the holidays with us! So we got to have one, big "Colorado Christmas" with Oma, Opa, Aunt Christy, Uncle Ben, Eliza, Lydia, and Aunt Marie. It was so great to have them here and spend some quality time together at 6,000 feet!
Christmas Snowstorm - We played in all the newly-fallen snow. Chris and I gave each other snowshoes for Christmas, so we gave those a try. And Chris and Uncle Ben even got to spend a day at Breckenridge!
Rest and Relaxation - We took full advantage of the slow pace of the holidays, spending lots of time cuddling, snuggling, and snoozing.
New Years Eve - Finally, we rung in the New Year with some bubbly, some funny hats, and...a YouTube video of the ball dropping last year so we could all get to bed on time (because we are all very young or very old). Happy 2023!
