Our Midwest trip looked a little different this year. This time, after spending a few days at the lake house in Wisconsin, Chris and I drove back to Colorado alone and left the kids behind for "Grandparents Camp," where they got to spend some extra (parent-free) time fishing, tubing, and swimming.
Crafts with Alyssa and Tiana.
Danny's first Northern Pike!
Then, after a few days, Nana and Papa handed the kids off to Oma and Opa for the second half of Grandparents Camp, where they got to spend more (parent-free) time swimming, catching turtles, shooting skeet, driving tractors, and hanging out in Indiana/Michigan.
Hammocking.
Turtle food.
Danny's first pay phone!
Getting in practice hours since (he keeps reminding us) he's less than two years from getting a real driver's permit.
While the kids were off at Grandparents Camp, Chris and I soaked up some kid-free time in Colorado. We enjoyed fancy dinners, movie nights, and mountain hikes, including a hike on Evergreen Mountain that took us right through a herd of elk!
Eventually, we decided we missed our children after all. So I flew back to Michigan to pick them up. But before heading home, we got to spend some time with Aunt Christy, Uncle Ben, Eliza, Lydia...and their new dune buggies.
Before we knew it, it was time to say goodbye. Parting is such sweet sorrow. But who knows, maybe we'll do Grandparents Camp again someday...if we can afford the tuition.
