Baptism by the Lake

Last Sunday, July 1, was Aaron's baptism.  Instead of having it at our church in Chicago (which, incidentally, doesn't even offer baptisms -- just "child dedications"), we chose to do it outside, where Chris and I usually feel closer to God anyway.

My parents have some property on Lime Lakes, in Jones, Michigan, that was perfect for the occasion.  A small group of family members joined us for the celebration.

Aaron dressed up in a special baptism outfit.

Although he wasn't a big fan of the hat.

He was the center of attention.

My father, a pastor, gave a simple message...

...and baptized Aaron (with clean water, not lake water!).

The Vander Griend family posed for a few pictures with our newly-baptized boy.

Afterward, we enjoyed some pulled pork, brats, cold beers, and dessert.

Aaron loved the frosting!  He gets his sweet tooth from his daddy.

Aaron played in the hammock for awhile...

...and then took a nap in Oma's arms.
So much excitement for one little baby!

It really was a wonderful day.  Not exactly your typical baptism.  But that suits us just fine.
