I decided that Aaron and Jill were still a little too young for knives, so instead of carving our pumpkins, we decorated them with funny faces and painted them.

We also took a trip out to County Line Orchard and met up with my parents for some apple picking and farm festivities.

Jill absolutely loved the petting zoo. She wanted to meet every single animal, including some rather grouchy-looking llamas who (thankfully) kept their distance.
Aaron, on the other hand, could hardly stand the smell of the barnyard and kept gagging.
He liked driving the tractor though!
And he wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty.
In the end, the temptation was great enough that we got him to feed the cow. But afterward he demanded a wet wipe...
And of course, there were costumes and trick-or-treating. I had big plans to dress the kids up in a group costume. My idea was a Peter Pan theme, since that's one of the kids' favorite movies: Aaron as Peter Pan, Jill as Tinkerbell, and Danny as Captain Hook. Cute, right? Jill liked the Tinkerbell idea, and Danny didn't care. But when I (foolishly) asked Aaron what he wanted to be for Halloween, he was adamant: a "dark green dinosaur." No idea why, but he wouldn't budge. So my plans went out the window. No coordination, but they look cute in anything so it all worked out.
Once we had our costumes, there were plenty of events to wear them to. First, we tried them out at our local park where they had a Halloween party.

(As you can see, I didn't bother with the Captain Hook costume once Aaron dashed my hopes of a coordinated look. Then Dora found this adorable minion costume for Danny anyway, and my work was done.)
The next Halloween event was the Pumpkins in the Park 5K. I've been getting back into running recently and signing up for races is a fun way to force myself to get into shape. Costumes and trick-or-treating were included so Aaron came along as my running mate.

As we've done the past few years, we took the kids trick-or-treating on Southport. This is my favorite trick-or-treating event because they shut down the streets and all the stores set out tables right in front (so you don't have to shove your way past other trick-or-treaters to go inside each store). Unfortunately, the event takes place right during prime naptime hours so Danny missed this one. But we're pretty sure he prefers sleep to candy...at least for now.

Unfortunately, just like last year, the actual day of Halloween was cold and rainy. I had plans to take Jill with me to a Halloween 5K in the morning but ended up going solo because it was pouring.
This is what Jill and Daddy do on a rainy day to entertain themselves.
That evening, we had to scrap our trick-or-treating plans because the rain just kept coming down. But we didn't mind. The kids already had more candy by that point than they could eat. So we invited some good friends over and just trick-or-treated in our building (which essentially meant we barged in on our poor, unsuspecting neighbors and forced them to raid their cupboards for candy). Friends are better than candy anyway...and better for your teeth!
