Eclipsed by Clouds

Today was the day that many science buffs and weather nerds have been waiting for...the solar eclipse!  While we weren't on the path of totality, Chicago was close enough that we thought we would be able to see a pretty good view of a partial eclipse.

Unfortunately, Mommy didn't anticipate that eclipse glasses would sell out weeks ahead of time so we created (and decorated) our own pinhole projectors at home.

All it took was some paper plates, tinfoil, tape, and a safety pin.

Pinhole projectors also make great hats.

We took our projectors up to the rooftop to watch the show.

But the clouds had other plans for us.

Thankfully, NASA was live-streaming the whole thing.

At least you don't have to worry about retinal damage from an iPhone!

We also encouraged the kids to draw what they thought the eclipse probably looked like behind the clouds.

Just as good as the real thing, right?  Oh well, we'll try again in 2024.
