- Aaron continues to impress us with his creativity and curiosity. He is constantly creating things that surprise and impress us. For example, he made me a "sea whistle" out of a straw and an old lotion carton. When you blow on the straw, it sounds like the sea. How amazing is that??
- He is very interested in science, and I have been enthusiastically encouraging this interest. Lately, he claims he is going to be an entomologist because he is into butterflies. In fact, we ordered a kit online that lets us raise caterpillars into butterflies at home! Right now, our caterpillars are a week or so away from forming their chrysalides. Very exciting.
- He is super pumped to start Kindergarten. We went to a "meet your teacher" event at his school last week and he was very disappointed that it wasn't an actual school day.
- Jill hit a major milestone this month -- she stopped sucking her thumb! We were informed by her dentist that her teeth were moving so much from the sucking that it was time to stop. So we painted her thumb with icky tasting polish and braced ourselves for the transition. We had a few emotional nights in the beginning, but she adjusted pretty quickly and now she is proud to show off her teeth at every opportunity because she is sure that they are visibly moving back into place.
- Jill loves swimming! I signed her and Aaron up for lessons at a nearby swimming school and she took to it like a fish to water (har har). They both did great, but Jill loooooved it. She cried at the end of the first lesson because she didn't want to leave. Also during her first lesson, she kept asking the teacher when she could dive and kept trying to jump into the water on her own because she was convinced she could already swim!
- Have I mentioned before that Danny's favorite animal is a buffalo? He likes water buffaloes the best, but any buffalo will do. Anytime we read a book or watch a movie that has a buffalo in it (which is more frequently than you might think) he gets really excited and says, "That's my favorite animal!"
- D certainly has a mischievous side. He knows all of the best ways to bug his brother and sister, but whenever he takes things too far he is quick to say "Saweee" and come in for a hug of contrition.
- He has developed something of a complex about people leaving without saying goodbye. I'm not sure what we did to traumatize him, but he gets really upset if he thinks we are going to leave without saying goodbye first. In fact, he is so in tune to the sound of the front door closing that it will wake him up from a deep slumber. So if Daddy has to leave for work before Danny wakes up we have to be really careful about closing the door as softly as possible. His insecurity doesn't seem to be related to the fact that someone is leaving, just his need to say goodbye first. Once he says goodbye, he happily skips off without a care.

-Aaron: "Mommy....did you know that poop smells good?"
-Me: "Uhhhh"
-Chris: "I'll be home before you know it."
-Jill (rolling her eyes): "I already know it."
-Danny (when I tried to pick him up): "Leave me alone you bad guy!"
-Jill (during dinner): "Aaron is a pee.....like the letter P!"
-Aaron: "Mommy! Jill said a potty word at the table!"
-Jill (gleefully): "Mommy, Aaron said 'potty' at the table!"
-Me (answering Aaron's questions about the election): "I was bummed when Hillary Clinton wasn't elected because she would have been a better president. And also, she would have been our first girl president. We've had a lot of boy presidents, but we've never had a girl one."
-Aaron: "Other girls didn't want to be president?"
-Me: "No they did. But there are some people who think that girls can't do the same things as boys. Isn't that silly"?"
-Aaron: "Well, there are some things that boys can do that girls can't."
-Me: "Like what?"
-Aaron: "Like standing up to go pee."
-Me (chuckling): "Well that's true. There are some things maybe about the way that our bodies work that means that we do things a little bit differently. But boys and girls are the same amount of smart. And they're the same amount of fun. And the same amount of silly. And the same amount of kind."
-Aaron: "Well, I don't know if Jill's the same amount of kind..."
Jill: "I like boogers more than ice cream...but I like ice cream too."
