2021, You're Fired

A year ago, we thought 2020 had been the worst year ever and were excited to be done with it.  We thought 2021 would be a fresh start.  We thought the pandemic might end.  We thought politics might change.  At the very least, we thought it couldn't get any worse.

Welllllll, maybe it wasn't quite worse.  But 2021 came right out of the gate with a violent insurrection, followed by two aggressive Covid variants, a bunch of voter suppression activity, schools across the country banning books, and--to wrap up--the most destructive wildfire in Colorado history that wiped out over 1,000 buildings in a day, less than 20 miles from where we live.  Then, on the last day of the year, a massive snowstorm prevented us from meeting up with friends in the mountains to celebrate New Years Eve.

So 2021, you're fired (all possible puns intended).

Celebrating at home in our jammies.  Even though we were on our own, we made the most of it.

We made sure not to waste a single noisemaker or piece of flair.

In case you think I'm exaggerating.

We took lots of selfies.

Why is Daddy dressed as the tin man?

We turned up the music.

And we danced 'til the dawn.  Or at least, until bedtime.

Dance, dance revolution.

We found a video that compiled ball-drops over the years.  It was actually comforting to see shots from the 30s and 40s, and to be reminded that this isn't the first time our country has gone through hard things.

Cheers to this crazy crew.

Whatever 2022 has in store, we can manage it if we have each other.

After all was said and done, we went to bed good and tired, as one does on NYE.

And the next morning, we celebrated New Years Day with our friends instead.  2022 is already looking up.  Let's hope this time next year I can post a list of good things that happened!
