Busy Little Bees

Man, are these kids busy!  From sports, to music, to parties, to theater, to play dates (which, by the way, Jill has informed me is no longer the proper term -- apparently they are "hang outs" now), we can hardly keep up!  Here are a few snapshots of the things they've been up to over the past few months:

Skiing - I took fewer ski pictures this year because after awhile they all start to look the same.  Suffice to say that we are all continuing to improve our skills on the slopes.  We even tried some black diamonds this season (although I may have ended up skiing backward for part of it...)!

Baseball - This year, Aaron discovered a passion for baseball.  He pretty consistently played catcher, and while I worry about what that will do to his knees, there's no denying that he's a great fit for the position.  He's a natural team leader.  Danny played baseball too, but was more often at shortstop.  It remains to be seen whether he'll get as passionate about it as Aaron, but he definitely had a lot of fun!

Golf - The boys, especially Danny, decided they like golf.  Chris took them putt-putting and to the driving range a few times and that was all it took.  Jill tried coming along once and decided she liked golf too...but a slightly different version.

Climbing - Danny went to climbing summer camp and came home obsessed.  This kid has no fear.  That's him at the top!

Soccer - Both boys also played Spring soccer, but as I was trying to find pictures for this post, I realized I don't have any of Aaron.  And that's because soccer wasn't much fun for Aaron this season.  It's an unfortunate phenomenon that kids' sports start to get really intense really early.  He had the heartbreaking experience of getting bumped off the "A" team at the beginning of the season, and even though he had friends on the "B" team, the pace and energy was still stressful.  By the end of the season, he decided he was done with soccer and preferred to just stick with basketball, baseball, and swimming (see below).  It's a bummer, but we're glad he's figuring out what he likes and doesn't like.  Life's too short to spend it playing a game you don't enjoy!

Swimming - All three kids tried summer swim team for the first time.  Aaron loved it and wants to keep swimming during the school year.  The other two had fun but decided it wasn't their sport.  Regardless, they all learned some great skills...including tips for how to get up very early in the morning for swim meets (hint: it involved doughnuts)!

Mountain Biking - Danny joined the Golden Bike eXperience team (i.e., "GBX") and learned to mountain bike like a pro!  He also learned to push himself to the limit and outside his comfort zone.  There were some days when he would come home from summer camp, go straight to GBX, and then tumble right into bed.  Such a hard worker!

Theater - Jill fell even more in love with theater this summer.  She did two weeks of theater camp where she got to play Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast, followed by some sort of villain in a self-written play about bad guys taking over the world.  A few weeks ago, she even got invited to audition for a real play at the theater, which is putting on A Christmas Story during the holiday season and needed a few child roles.  She didn't get the part in the end, but she did make it to the final round and had a lot of fun doing it!
