Fall has arrived, which means our ash tree turned a beautiful fiery red, the autumn winds began knocking over our patio chairs, pumpkins went on sale, and we pulled out the Halloween decorations!
Ready for spooky season.
A few days before Halloween, we carved our pumpkins.
Each kid chose his/her own distinctive theme.
Aaron's (top) was a murder victim (notice the axe lodged in its brain); Danny's (middle) said "6-7" (a meaningless, yet ubiquitous bit of slang popular with 9- to 14-year-olds); and Jill's (bottom) was, in her words, a "stereotypical nerd" (notice the speech bubble).
We also chose different themes for our costumes. Chris and I went as Bowser and Princess Peach, which created the perfect opportunity for a family costume...but the kids had no interest in our Super Mario Bros. theme. Instead, they coordinated their own group costumes...
Aaron and his friends went with a Christmas theme.
Two snowmen, two elves, Scrooge, Santa, the grinch...
...and for part of the night, a "Christmas cat" and a banana. Very festive.
Jill was "Gekko" from PJ Masks...
...which was much scarier when paired with the creepy twins from The Shining.
And Danny was an inflatable wiener dog.
The theme for his group costume was (you guessed it)...wiener dogs.
They were a huge hit on the trick-or-treating circuit.
They got a lot of laughs...and snickers. And that's what Halloween is all about!!
