We started her birthday morning with doughnuts and presents.
She got the mini-hatchimal toys she'd been begging for!
Later that afternoon, we took a few of her friends to see the DePaul Theatre production of The Cat in the Hat, followed by some pizza and cookie cake.
Let's get this show on the road!
Jill was so excited to party with her preschool crew.

Even though she technically got to blow out ten candles (five on each of her cookie cakes), she insisted that she was still only five.
More presents!
Then it was off to Oma and Opa's house so we could continue to celebrate Jill (and the start of summer) with a nice, hot day at the lake.
Guess what was waiting for Jill in Oma and Opa's garage when we got there!
Didn't get many pictures of our time at the lake because we spent so much of it jumping off the boat and splashing in the water. But it was a great day, filled with lots of fishing, swimming, swinging, and digging for worms.
The glorious conclusion of Jill's birthday weekend was the arrival of our newest family member...Rizzo the kitty. We tried to make it clear that he wasn't a birthday present per se -- he was just arriving in order to celebrate with us -- but I'm pretty sure Jill has convinced herself that he belongs to her.
And there's no denying that she loves him SO much.
It's pretty much impossible to get her to put him down. She cannot stand to have him anywhere other than in her arms.
On rare occasions, one of her brothers gets some kitty time.
But Daddy has to wait until after the kids are in bed before he can get any kitty cuddles.
Aaron even tried to offer Jill a rational argument for not getting too attached.
And we tried a number of tricks to lure her out of the house to give Rizzo a little breathing room.
But as soon as we step foot in the house he is right back in her arms. This kitty is going to get a lot of love! But not as much love as we have for you, Jilly girl. Happy birthday!
